Bamboo charcoal is the main product obtained by high-temperature pyrolysis of bamboo in the absence of oxygen. It possesses a rich porous structure, large specific surface area, electrical conductivity, and good thermal stability, making it highly valuable in fields such as far-infrared radiation, negative ion effects, electromagnetic shielding, water purification, and adsorption of toxic and harmful gases. Bamboo charcoal boards are carbon-based composite materials made from bamboo charcoal as the main raw material, with added processing aids and additives, and produced through a special process. They are environmentally friendly, high-strength, have strong nail-holding power, are corrosion-resistant and moisture-proof, and have good dimensional stability. They can replace medium-density fiberboard, plywood, and engineered wood flooring, and have a broad market prospect.
However, before the establishment of national standards, bamboo charcoal boards lacked unified testing methods and evaluation systems. Therefore, this standard aims to regulate the bamboo charcoal board product market, strengthen production management, standardize product quality, promote the transformation and upgrading of the bamboo charcoal industry, and provide guidance for production and application. Furthermore, this standard (GB/T 43212-2023) has been included in the "Special Standard System for 'Bamboo-for-Plastic'" issued by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration as an important standard for engineering and building materials.
