The name "moisture-resistant board" directly points to its core function: resisting the physical damage caused by humid environments. To understand its material composition, one cannot simply stop at the superficial description of "moisture-resistant," but must analyze it from the two interrelated levels of "barrier" and "structure" in materials science. Moisture-resistant boards are not composed of a single, entirely new chemical substance; their essence lies in the systematic modification of common engineered wood products to give them the ability to resist the attack of liquid water and water vapor. This modification mainly revolves around two core objectives: first, blocking the path of moisture penetration; and second, strengthening the structural stability of the material itself under humid conditions.
From the perspective of blocking the path of moisture, moisture-resistant treatment first acts on the substrate of the board. The most common engineered wood substrates, such as particleboard and medium-density fiberboard (MDF), are made from wood fibers or wood chips. These wood units themselves are hygroscopic, and the countless micropores formed when they are bonded under high temperature and pressure constitute natural channels for moisture penetration.
